Understanding how our dogs show love 🤍
For a long time, we thought a wagging tail or a lick meant the same thing every time: “I love you.”
But living closely with dogs teaches you something more nuanced. Dogs don’t love like humans do. They communicate through bodies, scents, small signals and context matters.
A lick can mean: curiosity, comfort, bonding, asking for attention, trying to calm a situation or sometimes… asking for space.
That’s what makes it beautiful and humbling.
When we slow down and really observe the ears, the eyes, the timing, we start to understand what our dog is actually saying, not what we want it to mean.
Love isn’t always loud.
Sometimes it’s quiet trust.
Sometimes it’s choosing to sit near you.
Sometimes it’s walking away and knowing you’ll respect that.
Understanding our dogs better is one of the deepest ways we can love them back 🐾
